Joni B. Mansmann, director of business and finance for Canon-McMillan School District, has been named a MetLife Resources/ASBO International Bridges to the Future Scholarship recipient.

The Bridges to the Future Scholarship program was developed by MetLife Resources and the Association of School Business Officials International to recognize school business officials who have up to five years experience in the field and who are interested in further developing their knowledge, skills and leadership.

She joined the district in July 2007 and previously had a 14-year career at Mellon Financial as an accounting manager in the investment management outsourcing department.

Ms. Mansmann was one of 20 scholarship recipients from across the country, and the only one from Pennsylvania.

Honorees received a $2,000 scholarship to attend the association's International Leadership Conference in Chicago in February.

• The board of directors of Canonsburg General Hospital recently appointed Vicente Alcantara, M.D., Andrew C. Allison, D.O., Steven L. Anolik, M.D., Athanasios Colonias, M.D., Darren Frank, M.D., Stephen M. Karlovits, M.D., Jason L. Lamb, M.D., Cynthia E. Luck, D.O., James A. Marks, D.P.M., Louis Olegario, M.D., Francis W. Redican, Jr., M.D., and Dmitri V. Vassiliev, M.D. to the hospital medical staff.

Dr. Alcantara, a board-certified radiologist, completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Mercy Hospital. He is a hospital staff radiologist.

A board-certified emergency medicine physician, Dr. Allison received his osteopathic medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in emergency medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is a hospital staff emergency medicine physician.

Dr. Anolik, a radiation oncologist, completed a residency in radiation oncology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiation Oncology. His office is in the Allegheny General Hospital Radiation Oncology department.

Dr. Colonias, a radiation oncologist, received his medical degree from Northwestern Ohio University College of Medicine and completed a residency in radiation oncology at Allegheny General Hospital. His office is in the Allegheny General Hospital Radiation Oncology department.

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Frank received his medical degree from MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital. His office is at Southpointe.

A board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Karlovits received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed a residency in radiation oncology at Allegheny General Hospital. His office is in the Allegheny General Hospital Radiation Oncology department.

Dr. Lamb, a board-certified thoracic surgeon, received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed a residency in thoracic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital. He is an associate with the McGinnis Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgical Associates, with an office in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Luck, a board-certified family practice physician, received her osteopathic medicine degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in family practice at Doctors Hospital Ohio Health. She also completed a fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Luck's office is in McDonald.

Dr. Marks, a board-certified podiatrist, received his degree in podiatric medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and completed a residency in podiatry at the Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh. His office is in Canonsburg.

A board-certified pain management physician, Dr. Olegario received his medical degree from the Cebu Doctors College and completed a fellowship in pain medicine at Lehigh Valley Pain Management Center. His office is in West Mifflin.

A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Redican received his medical degree from St. George's University and a fellowship in cardiology from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He is an associate of Donohue Cardiology Associates with an office in Washington.

Dr. Vassiliev, a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management physician, received his medical degree from Moscow State Medical University and completed a fellowship in pain management at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. His office is in Allegheny General Hospital.

• The first annual Giving Back Awards reception recently honored Guy Montecalvo, Canon-McMillan School District's athletic director and head high school football coach.

Mr. Montecalvo formerly was head football coach at Washington High School. His Washington football and track teams have won WPIAL and PIAA championships.

He coached two years at Penn State, 23 years at Washington, and is in his sixth year at Canon-McMillan.

• Registered nurse LuAnn Bird has been named director of utilization management and social services at Canonsburg General Hospital. Previously, Mrs. Bird served as the hospital's director of the inpatient acute rehabilitation unit and IV therapy.

Mrs. Bird, of Canonsburg, has been with the hospital for 32 years. A graduate of Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing, she received a bachelor's degree in nursing from California University of Pennsylvania.

She will be responsible for utilization review, case management, clinical documentation and social services.

Elesha Coffman, assistant professor of history at Waynesburg University, has been published in the November/December issue of Books and Culture, a bimonthly Christian review magazine published by Christianity Today International.

Her article is based on a recently completed dissertation for her doctorate from Duke University that focused on The Christian Century, a magazine that features news, theological reflection, book reviews and other articles.

The research revolved around Charles Clayton Morrison's years at The Christian Century which was re-started in 1908. Her dissertation focused on the Century's history for the first 39 years, during which Morrison served as editor.
