TV Preview: Local mom in the running on 'The Bachelor'
Saturday, January 03, 2009

Megan Parris, a 25-year-old single mom and lacrosse coach from Sewickley, will appear on the 13th edition of ABC's "The Bachelor."

Parris, whose son, Deacon, is 1, will vie for the affections of Cleveland native Jason Mesnick, a divorced father living in Seattle with his 3-year-old son, Ty. Parris is one of four mothers on the series; 25 women total will be in the running. When Parris first meets Mesnick, she blurts out that she and her son's father "split up a while ago."

"I didn't think I'd bring that up right away," she says.

"Don't worry about it," Mesnick replies.

'The Bachelor'
  • When: 8 p.m. Monday, WTAE.
  • Starring: Jason Mesnick (pictured in photo) with Megan Parris of Sewickley.

While other mothers share that they have children, Parris initially seems to keep that information about herself from the other contestants, who include a self-described Mesnick stalker and a woman who judges a man based on what condiments he puts on his hot dog. One player quizzes Mesnick on naming the three branches of government.

"I'm coming for you, Jason!" warns a dental hygienist who refers to herself as "a dental Nazi."

Mesnick says, "There's a definite connection with Megan" just before a ceremony where the women vote out one of their own. Parris, who isn't shy about using profanity that ABC bleeps, appears to be at risk of expulsion after other women complain about her.

Mesnick was a runner-up on "The Bachelorette," so he's a known quantity to the women on this edition of "The Bachelor." He said in a recent People magazine interview that he's engaged to one of the contestants from the upcoming season of "The Bachelor," which has already been taped.
