Andrew Cressler, Plum

The past week: A 6-foot-4 senior guard, Cressler scored 26 points in a WPIAL Class AAAA Section 2 victory against Woodland Hills, 24 points in a section loss to McKeesport and 31 in a non-section victory at Bethel Park.

Check this out: Cressler, who scored 17.7 points per game as a junior, has a scholarship offer from West Point. He said a few other Division I schools, such as Saint Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris, have shown interest.

Do you know in pregame warmups if you are going to have a big scoring night? Sometimes it is hard to tell. But then there are other times where, if I am shooting it well, I kind of know I will carry that over into the game.

What would be your perfect individual scoring line? A triple-double. I've been close a few times, but have never had one.

Did you know your basketball highlight tape is on YouTube? Yes, I did. The kid who made it put it on there. I feel good about it.

When did you first dunk? It was after an eighth-grade practice and I was trying and finally able to dunk. I was just kind of fooling around and the other guys on the team were watching.

If you were an opposing coach, how would you defend you? I guess I would face guard me and, first, not let me catch the ball. But then when I got it, I wouldn't let me get to the basket and I would also try to affect the midrange jumper.

Who is the toughest player you have played against? [St. Anthony High School (N.J.) small forward] Dominic Cheek. We played against him in AAU and because of how athletic and how much physically stronger he was than anyone else, he was just so good.

You can go to dinner anywhere you want. Where do you pick? The Village Inn in Verona. And I would get the spaghetti dinner.

The one television show you never miss? "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Kayla Cook, Jeannette

The past week: Cook's 17 points against Laurel Highlands in the Fayette County Coaches Challenge gave her 1,012 career points, an amazing accomplishment considering she's just 10 games into her junior season.

Check this out: A 5-foot-9 guard, Cook is one of the top juniors in the WPIAL. A starter since she was a freshman, Cook is averaging 23.9 points per game this season, after tallying 16.4 a season ago. Cook is hearing from Division I schools, including Temple and Northwestern.

What's it like to break 1,000 points this early in your career? It's special. I've been working hard. I just want to be recognized.

Can Jeannette make a run at the WPIAL title? Definitely. I think we're the underdogs. We're going to show everybody that we're for real.

Who is the best player you have played against? I would have to say Ashley Henderson. She played for Greensburg Central Catholic when I was a freshman.

What was it like going to school with Terrelle Pryor? I knew he was good, but he was just another person to me. He was a friend and I'm happy for him.

What is your favorite class? I like trigonometry.

Best Christmas gift you received this year? A new pair of Jordan's.

Did you make a New Year's resolution? Yeah. Probably just to make my game better in some type of way.

How far will the Steelers get in the playoffs? Hopefully far, but you never know with them.
