College Basketball Roundup: Duquesne women fall to No. 9 Tigers
Lady Dukes unable to tame hot Auburn
Tuesday, December 30, 2008

Alli Smalley scored 21 points and Whitney Boddie added 14 points and 13 assists to help No. 9 Auburn remain unbeaten with an 87-67 victory against Duquesne in Coral Cables, Fla.

The Tigers (13-0) are off to their best start since 1988-89 when they won their first 29 games before losing to Tennessee late in the season. That year, Auburn won the SEC title, went to the Final Four and finished with only two losses.

DeWanna Bonner and Sherell Hobbs each had 13 and Keke Carrier added 11 as five Tigers reached double figures.

Carrier also had five blocks and stymied Duquesne's offense. "Her size is definitely a factor but beyond that she had really good post moves," Duquesne forward Samantha Pollino said. "It was definitely hard to play against that."

Rachel Frederick led Duquesne (9-4) with 12 points.

Auburn started with a 9-0 run in the first half and only allowed Duquesne to get within four points throughout.
