PBS stations cut airings of 'Mr. Rogers'
TV Notes
Saturday, December 27, 2008

This past summer we reported that 63 percent of PBS stations continued to carry "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" when it was sent out to stations daily. Now that PBS is sending just one episode each week, 60 percent of PBS stations continue to carry "MRN," according to PBS.

But the frequency of its airing has decreased.

In May, 90 percent of the stations carrying the show aired it on weekdays and 10 percent on weekends only. Now those figures have nearly reversed. In October, after PBS went to one-episode weekly distribution, 35 percent carried it weekdays and 65 percent on weekends only.

Family Communications Inc., Rogers' Oakland-based company, continues to develop ideas with PBS for a successor series to "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." (Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV editor)

Talking 'Law'

Dick Wolfe, executive producer of NBC's evergreen crime drama "Law & Order," proclaims he's never going to run out of stories. "It's unfortunately a constantly renewable resource. When [Brandon Tartikoff, then chief of NBC] bought the show way back in the last century, he said, 'What's the Bible' [the source of material]? And I said, 'The front page of the New York Post.'

"And it has not been a bad piece of source material because, for better or worse, we can't come up with stories better than a headless body found in a topless bar ... " (Luaine Lee, McClatchy-Tribune News Service)

Glenn Close, Ricky Gervais and Jake Gyllenhaal are bringing their star power to the Golden Globes.

The three actors are set to serve as presenters at the 66th annual awards ceremony, to be broadcast live on Jan. 11 on NBC. They'll join previously announced presenters Salma Hayek, Drew Barrymore, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler, Simon Baker and Seth Rogen.
