Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo returned to work yesterday, going through practice a day after being sent home with flu-like symptoms.
Romo shuffled through the hallway on his way to a quarterbacks meeting before the workout. Asked if he felt better, Romo said, "Oh, yeah. I feel like a hundred dollars."
The Cowboys (9-6) close the regular season Sunday in Philadelphia. Dallas gets a wild card with a win, misses the playoffs with a loss.
"We'll make him practice double," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said before practice, smiling. "We'll make him practice extra so he can catch up for people who worried about him missing practice yesterday."
Tight end Jason Witten (sprained left ankle) also returned to practice after missing Wednesday. Running back Marion Barber (dislocated right pinkie toe) and safety Ken Hamlin (foot) were out there, too.
Witten and Hamlin are expected to play against the Eagles. Barber is likely to be a game-time decision.
Dallas has given right tackle Marc Colombo a four-year contract extension, guaranteeing that nearly all of Romo's blockers will be together through 2012.
Colombo's deal was agreed to weeks ago, but wasn't completed until Wednesday because of some technicalities. It's worth $22 million, with $11.5 million guaranteed.
"We had a couple of road bumps with some of the new rules," Colombo said yesterday. "We worked through it. It is a relief to have this finished. Now I can focus completely on football."
The game Sunday against Philadelphia will be Colombo's 48th consecutive start since former coach Bill Parcells gave him a chance to revive his career.
Colombo was a first-round pick by Chicago in 2002, but hurt his knee and never lived up to expectations. He was cut in 2005, then signed by Dallas. Parcells gave him the rest of the season off to rehabilitate the knee so he could come back strong in '06. He made the starting lineup and hasn't come out since.
"I love being a Dallas Cowboy," said Colombo, who would've been a free agent after this season. "This is where I got my second chance and I just love being part of this team, being part of this offensive line. We're all connected together and we're here for a little bit, so it's a big deal for me."
Left guard Kyle Kosier is signed through 2010, but everyone else on the line is signed for several more years. Colombo and center Andre Gurode are locked up until '12, while Flozell Adams and Leonard Davis are through '13.
Tampa Bay didn't look far for a replacement for Monte Kiffin.
Secondary coach Raheem Morris will take over as defensive coordinator in 2009, ensuring continuity next season with Kiffin, 68, leaving the NFL to join his son, Lane, at the University of Tennessee.
If the Buccaneers (9-6) don't make the playoffs, Sunday will be Kiffin's final game in Tampa Bay.
"He's been with me a long time and he's had a lot of success here. He's had his hand in a lot of real good things," coach Jon Gruden said, adding he wanted to end speculation about Kiffin's successor and whether the Buccaneers will continue to run the Tampa 2 scheme.
"I like this defense. I believe in it, and certainly believe in Raheem Morris. I believe he'll be outstanding."
Morris is in his sixth season as a Buccaneers assistant, second as defensive backs coach. He initially joined Gruden's staff as a defensive quality assistant in 2002, was a defensive assistant in 2003 and assistant defensive backs coach for the next two seasons before spending one year as defensive coordinator at Kansas State.
Linebacker Channing Crowder and cornerback Will Allen were limited in practice because of injuries, and their availability for a showdown against the New York Jets is uncertain. Both missed practice Wednesday. Crowder sat out a victory at Kansas City Sunday with a knee injury, and Allen hurt his groin in the game, but continued to play. They participated in individual drills yesterday. The Dolphins (10-5) win the AFC East Division if they beat the Jets.
Running back Marshawn Lynch and linebacker Kawika Mitchell returned to practice as Buffalo prepares to close its season playing host to New England Sunday. Both missed practice Wednesday -- Lynch with a sore shoulder that kept him out of most of the second half of Buffalo's win at Denver Sunday, and Mitchell with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters (knee) and No. 3 receiver Roscoe Parrish (knee) missed practice for a second day in a row.
