BUFFALO -- Sidney Crosby ended a nine-game streak without a goal by scoring 43 seconds into overtime to give the Penguins a 4-3 victory against Buffalo at HSBC Arena tonight.
The goal did not become official until after a video review determined that Crosby did not use a high stick to deflect in the winner.
The victory was just the Penguins' third in the past eight games and raised their record to 18-11-4.
Daniel Paille put Buffalo in front, 1-0, one minute into the game when his wrist shot from above the right circle eluded goalie Marc-Andre Fleury after appearing to glance off the skate of Penguins defenseman Philippe Boucher.
Fleury, making his third consecutive start after missing a month because of a groin injury, kept the Penguins within a goal by denying Clarke MacArthur on a rebound from directly in front of the net with seven minutes to go in the period.
He topped that with a sensational stop on Sabres winger Thomas Vanek, one of the league's most prolific goal-scorers, during a Buffalo power play just over a minute into the second period, rejecting his shot from point-blank range.
Fleury couldn't prevent Ales(cq) Kotalik from making it 2-0 at 5:23, however. Kotalik picked up a loose puck behind the Penguins defense pairing of Mark Eaton and Kris Letang and broke in alone before sticking a shot over Fleury's glove.
The Penguins countered almost immediately on a nice effort by winger Pascal Dupuis. He was able to control a bouncing pass from Miroslav Satan, then throw a shot by Sabres goalie Ryan Miller at 6:18 for his seventh of the season.
Brooks Orpik, who fed the puck to Satan, got the second assist.
Defenseman Alex Goligoski pulled the Penguins even at 12:23, beating Miller from the left point for his fifth. Goligoski's shot appeared to change directions en route to the net, perhaps striking the stick of teammate Petr Sykora, but Goligoski was credited with the goal.
Evgeni Malkin picked up an assist on the goal to stretch his scoring streak to nine games.
Buffalo regained the lead while Penguins winger Eric Godard was serving a boarding minor at 15:58, as MacArthur was unchecked in front of the net and collected a Kotalik rebound before flipping the puck past Fleury.
The Penguins, who were on the wrong end of the first five man-advantages of the evening, got their first power play at 10:35 of the third, when Paille was sent off for roughing Goligoski and wasted little time exploiting it.
Goligoski scored the goal on a wrist shot through traffic from the high slot at 11:17, with assists going to Malkin and Jordan Staal.
