College Football Notebook: Creehan to coach W. Va. Wesleyan
Friday, December 19, 2008

West Virginia Wesleyan named Dennis Creehan as the Bobcats' 21st head coach yesterday.

Creehan (a graduate of Bethel Park High School) started his coaching career in 1971 as defensive coordinator at Keystone Oaks and then moved on to Pitt as a graduates assistant with Johnny Majors.

Creehan also gained experience with both the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders (2004-'07) of the Canadian Football League.

Creehan gained some notoriety when he was hired and then let go as the Steelers' linebackers coach after coach Chuck Noll learned he had been serving as San Francisco State's coach for six weeks.

School officials threatened legal action when Creehan took the Steelers' job. "We felt the only thing to do was to honor the school's contract with Denny. We rescinded the offer here and we wish him and the San Francisco State program success," Noll said at the time.

Ball State

Stan Parrish, the Cardinals' offensive coordinator the past three seasons, signed a four-year contract as the new coach of 23rd-ranked Ball State. He replaces Brady Hoke, who resigned this week to become the coach at San Diego State.

Georgia Tech

First-year coach Paul Johnson was given a new 7-year, $17.7 million contract. Johnson was voted ACC Coach of the Year. The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 15 and will meet LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Dec. 31.

Miami

Quarterback Robert Marve will not play in the Emerald Bowl next week because of a violation of team academic rules.

Juniata

Carmen Felus was named head coach. Felus has coached for 14 years including a stint with IUP as offensive coordinator from 2000-2005.
