CHRISTMAS SERVICES

Cranberry -- Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8070 Rowan Road, will hold Christmas Eve services as follows: The 4 p.m. service is intended for children and families, the 7 and 11 p.m. services will feature candlelight, music and traditional Word and sacrament. McCandless -- The Cantata "There is Peace in the World Tonight," by Randy Vader and Jay Rouse, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8225 Peebles Road. Richland -- On Christmas Eve, First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, Route 8 at Heckert Road, will present music by children and meditation at 5 p.m. Wednesday; meditation and music, dance and drama with the Bakerstown Praise Band at 7 p.m.; and a service with the Chancel Choir at 10 p.m. Candle-lighting will take place at all services. Sewickley -- Students from kindergarten to 12th grade, those in introductory-level college courses, and adult learners can visit the Sewickley Public Library of the Quaker Valley School District or the library's Web site, www.sewickleylibrary.org to get free help from qualified tutors. O'Hara -- Students from Fox Chapel Area High School will broadcast a live telethon to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation. Tune in to Comcast cable channel 98 or Verizon FIOS channel 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. The telethon will rebroadcast from 4 to 6 p.m. every day from Tuesday through Jan. 1. HOLIDAY CONCERTS

O'Hara -- The Fox Chapel Area School District Choral Music Department will present a concert, "Sounds of the Season," at 7 p.m. Monday in Fox Chapel Area High School auditorium, 611 Field Club Road. Performances will include Fox Chapel Area High School choral ensembles, Dorseyville Middle School Girls' Chamber Chorus, the high school orchestra, and the local Fathers and Sons Choir. Professional artists include percussionists P.J. Gatch and R.J. Heid. Richland/Valencia -- St. Barnabas Charities will serve a free Christmas dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at two sites. NEW YEARS EVE

Cranberry -- St. Ferdinand Parish, 2535 Rochester Road, will hold a New Year's Eve party beginning at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 31 at the Marriott Hotel, Route 228, Cranberry Woods. Tickets are $75 per person and include dinner and entertainment, a cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres, and champagne toast at midnight. A cash bar is available for the remainder of the celebration. O'Hara -- Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania's All of Us Care program and the Fox Chapel Area School District will hold a public Save-A-Life Tour from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at Fox Chapel High School, 611 Field Club Road. The program, which includes a presentation and a ride on the hands-on drinking and driving simulator, helps students understand the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol.
