Penn State coach Joe Paterno today agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the football program through the 2011 season.
According to a statement released by the university, "it was also agreed that the parties might re-evaluate their circumstances and alter the arrangement by either shortening or extending its length as necessary."
Paterno, who turns 82 Sunday, is the winningest coach in Division I-A history with 383 victories. His current four-year contract was due to expire after Penn State's Rose Bowl game against USC on Jan. 1.
