HERSHEY, Pa. -- Thomas Jefferson is golden again.
The Jaguars (15-1) earned a 34-7 victory against Archbishop Wood (12-3) tonight in the PIAA Class AAA football championship game at Hersheypark Stadium.
The win gave the Jaguars their second consecutive PIAA title and was Thomas Jefferson's 31st victory in a row against in-state competition.
The Jaguars didn't take long to spring to a lead, as they forced a fumble on the opening kickoff and then grabbed a 7-0 advantage on just the second play from scrimmage when quarterback Tyler Wehner scored a 5 yard touchdown run.
Thomas Jefferson made Archbishop Wood pay for a turnover on the next series. After Steve Licht had an interception to thwart a Vikings drive, the Jaguars quickly constructed it into more points, when Wehner hit wide-open receiver Dan Virgin on a 13 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.
Early in the second quarter, Archbishop Wood sliced its deficit in half, making it 14-7 when Anthony Narisi caught a 26 yard score with 9:57 remaining.
But the Jaguars fired right back, making it 21-7 when Brock DeCicco --- a Pitt recruit ---- caught a 33 yard strike from Wehner, then upped it to 28-7 later in the second when DeCicco reeled in a 18 yard score.
The Jaguars were ultra-efficient in the first half, running 26 plays and gaining 225 yards as Wehner hit on 8 of 11 of his throws.
From there, Thomas Jefferson shifted into cruise control in the second half, earning its second consecutive state crown.
