The Allegheny County Airport Authority will spend $600,000 over the next two years to help promote Delta's Pittsburgh to Paris nonstop flight.
The authority's board approved the spending at its meeting today. The advertising help will be in addition to $9 million in possible subsidies the airline could receive if revenues fall short of agreed-to targets.
Authority Executive Director Bradley D. Penrod said the spending is part of the airport's routine marketing efforts on behalf of the airlines. About $200,000 will be transferred from an existing account.
The authority also will devote about $100,000 of its $300,000 to $400,000 marketing budget next year to the Delta service. Another $300,000 will be spent in 2010.
The Delta flight begins in June.
