LAS VEGAS -- The Pirates are trying to sign free-agent utility infielder Ramon Vazquez to a two-year, $4 million contract.
Vazquez, 32, batted .290 with six home runs and 40 RBIs for the Texas Rangers last season.
Also, the team selected left-handed starter Donald Veal from the Chicago Cubs in the Rule 5 draft and lost left-handed starter Kyle Bloom to the Detroit Tigers.
