One dead, one hurt in Garfield crash
Sunday, December 07, 2008

One person was killed and another was injured yesterday after a single-car crash in Garfield.

Adam Dahr, 24, of Greensboro, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 1:58 a.m. in the 4700 block of Mossfield Street, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office. Police identified him as the driver of the car and said he was wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the car, Joseph DiRenzo, 24, of Morningside, was ejected from the car.

Mr. DiRenzo, who was in stable condition at UPMC Presbyterian, was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Officers from the accident investigation unit believe the car, a Ford Mustang GT, was traveling at a high speed when it flipped over several times and landed in the middle of the road, city police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

A witness told police Mr. DiRenzo was thrown from the car after it suddenly veered into a guard rail, rolled over and landed on its roof, Ms. Richard said.

The crash remains under investigation.
