Hampton's Maddie Georgi has made it to the finals of the Music City Madness competition.
The 16-year-old junior at Hampton High School is one of two competitors left in the online contest sponsored by Country Music Television.
Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can listen to her perform her original song "Gone Away Again" at www.cmt.com. Choose the "Music City Madness" link and then click on "vote for the winner."
The other competitor left standing from the original field of 64 hopefuls is Georgia singer-songwriter Kurt Thomas.
Visitors can hear both performances and then vote -- multiple times, if they wish -- through Dec. 15.
"We have contacted everyone we know, asking them to vote," Maddie said Tuesday. "And they've sent out e-mails to their friends to get the word out as far as possible."
Maddie said she was tickled to be among the original competitors, chosen from 60,000 performers. "Being in the Top 64 got me a lot of exposure and a lot of new fans," she said.
Whoever wins will travel to Nashville to record an episode of the CMC online series "Unplugged at Studio 330." The winner also will participate in a mentoring session with Grammy-winning singer Randy Travis and have an audition with Warner Bros. Records executives.
