Sidney Crosby put on a show with three goals and an assist as the Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils, 4-1, tonight at Mellon Arena.
With the win, the Penguins finish November with a 9-2-1 record for the month.
The Penguins play six of their next eight games on the road.
Crosby produced a highlight goal on his first shift for the only score of the first period.
After speeding behind the New Jersey defense, specifically Paul Martin once he got past the blue line, Crosby moved in on goaltender Scott Clemmensen, who lightly poke-checked the puck off Crosby's stick. Staying with the play, Crosby got the puck back and, while moving away from the net, threw a spinning backhand past Clemmensen from the bottom of the left circle at 1:21.
Crosby set up the second goal, on a power play at 7:26 of the second period, when he sent a pass through the crease that Petr Sykora knocked in to make it 2-0. The tic-tac-toe play started with Evgeni Malkin at the right point. He flipped it ahead to Tyler Kennedy, who slipped a nice drop pass to Crosby.
At 12:35 of the second period, Crosby picked up his second goal and third point of the game when he scored on a rebound of a Malkin shot during four-on-four play to make it 3-0.
New Jersey climbed to within 3-1 at 1:54 of the third period when Michael Rupp shot the puck past sprawled defenseman Hal Gill and goaltender Dany Sabourin.
Crosby completed his second career hat trick with a diving empty-net goal with 2:01 left in regulation.
