South Side club closed for overcrowding, violations
Saturday, November 29, 2008

Pittsburgh's Nuisance Bar Task Force closed a South Side club early Thursday after finding nearly 500 people in a space permitted to hold 350.

The Fountain Room, in the 2600 block of Josephine Street, had also violated "numerous" other fire, health and building codes, according to police.

Police arrested one person on a charge of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The fire bureau ordered The Fountain Room -- also known as Angels -- to remain closed until its owner, Michael Isaac, can prove the club is in compliance with fire codes.

The task force's spot inspection of the club took place around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, following complaints from the community.

It was assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police Liquor Control Enforcement, the Allegheny County district attorney's office, the Pennsylvania Department of Probation and Parole, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Building Inspection and the Allegheny County Health Department.
