Q: Are Mitch Berger and Najeh Davenport working for free? As veterans, when they were cut I thought they were entitled to their salary for the year. Do they get even more money for returning or is this for the love of the game, being a good teammate, auditioning for future employment, or some combination of all of these?

BOUCHETTE: Neither is working for free, but they are different circumstances. Because Berger was on the roster for the first game and is a vested veteran, he receives his entire annual salary for the season. So, he was collecting the same salary when he was out of football the past few weeks as he will this week -- he did not cost the Steelers any more to re-sign him. Davenport, however, was not on the roster the first week so each week he is on the roster he receives 1/17th of his annual salary and was not paid during his time off the roster.
