Westmoreland County detectives have arrested a Jeannette man in connection with the fatal shooting of a Thanksgiving dinner guest at his house last night, according to county District Attorney John Peck.
Michael McFarland, of North Second Street, is accused of shooting Jason Lee Fry in the chest during a fight in the driveway of Mr. McFarland's home around 9 p.m.
Mr. Fry, 32, of Manor, was later pronounced dead at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital at Jeannette.
Mr. McFarland and his wife had invited Mr. Fry to have dinner with them, Mr. Peck said. Later in the evening, Mr. McFarland and Mr. Fry started fighting. Mr. McFarland took out a 9mm handgun and told Mr. Fry that "he didn't want to do this," a witness told police.
Mr. McFarland shot Mr. Fry one time, Mr. Peck said. He then tried to give CPR to Mr. Fry, while his wife called 911.
Mr. McFarland is being held at the Westmoreland County Jail on a charge of homicide.
