Local telephone service has been restored in Washington County after some Windstream customers temporarily lost service.

The county safety department said late this morning that the 377 and 632 exchanges in the 724 area code, Fredericktown and Richeyville, respectively, were affected. About 2,900 customers weree involved.

A Windstream spokeswoman said service was restored by about 5:15 p.m.

Cellular service in the Fredericktown area also was affected.
