The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful
Most influential man, Brandy tells her troubles, Billy Strayhorn Birthday Bash
Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Who tops Details magazine's list of 40 most influential men in the world?

No, it's not a certain President-elect, but that's pretty close.

Coming in at No. 1 on "The Power 40" list is "The United States Secret Service Agent."

Hey, we know in about 53 days Mr. Obama will be the leader of the free world, the guy in charge of getting the economy back on track and getting us another stimulus check, 'cause Lord knows we could use it.

But he can't do that if he's not around, so we can't argue with Details on that one.

Others on the list are bailout czar Neel Kashkari; John Mayer, Tom Cruise (the Details cover boy), the Palin Bunch (Todd, Track and Trig Palin plus Levi Johnston); Live Nation CEO Michael Rapinol; Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal; Larry Rudolph, the man who brought Britney Spears' career back from the dead; and Kanye West, aka the black Elvis.

Since we're mentioning magazines, we'll tell you about Brandy's Us Weekly interview in which she talks about everything from her secret marriage that really wasn't to her involvement in a fatal car accident a couple of years ago.

If you recall back in 2002, the pregnant pop princess and former TV star announced that she and the baby's father, Robert Smith, had been secretly wed. The couple split up around the time their daughter, Sy'rai was a year old.

"I lied because of the fear of what people would think and the pressure to be a role model. I didn't want to be seen as not married and having a baby."

Girl, we can certainly understand.

On the 2006 car accident she was involved in that took the life of 38-year-old wife and mother Awatef Aboudihaj:

"It was a very tough time, and I still have never talked about it with Sy'rai," Brandy said. "I've had to be a mother and stay strong for her. I'd cry when she'd go to sleep so she wouldn't see me like that -- I had a responsibility to her."

Of course, you know all this talk is to help promote her upcoming album, "Human," which drops Dec. 9.

We like Miss Brandy, so we hope it's successful. Little girlfriend has been through a lot.

We don't really care about these two people, but in the interest of celebrity fairness, we guess we have to let you know that "The Hills" stars, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, really are married.

The two tied the knot last weekend in Cabo San Lucas.

Now this is something worth writing about. "Suite Life: A Billy Strayhorn Birthday Bash," is 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty.
