Will Crocker's hit get reviewed, too?
Ed Bouchette's daily Steelers question
Saturday, November 22, 2008

Question: Hello Ed, Marvin Lewis stated the competition committee will review the vicious Ward hit this off season. Will Crocker's hit be included in this review? Or are 1-9-1 defensive backs just playing in the spirit of the game?

Joel Mikesell, Abilene, Tex.

BOUCHETTE: Crocker's hit was judged legal by the officials on the field, who did not throw the flag. Now, when Ray Anderson's boys in the league office get it and run it in HD slow-mo, who knows what they'll come up with. The safety issue is not to be taken lightly, and I do think Crocker could have made the tackle without delivering a blow to the head of Santonio Holmes, who truly was in a defenseless position. But I also believe we're getting to a point where every hard hit is debated, and I don't think that is good for the sport. It's not mentioned nearly as often in the college game.
