NFL Notebook: Giants-Ravens game of body and word
Sunday, November 16, 2008

The game of the day pits AFC North Division co-leader Baltimore (6-3) going to Giants Stadium to butt heads with NFC East leader New York (8-1).

The game within the game just might be even more of a spectacle as the Ravens' defense goes heads up with the Giants' three-headed run offense (169.9 ypg).

"This is a business," Giants jumbo back Brandon Jacobs said. "This is a part of our job and this is what we do. He's coming down here and he's got a helmet and shoulder pads, just like I do. He'll come down here and I'll come down there, that's just the way the game goes. Whatever happens, happens."

Said Baltimore's Ray Lewis:

"The only way to stop somebody like that is to run into them full speed. The game of football is hit or be hit. So the bottom line, I don't care how big his size is ... football is football. And when you strap on your chin strap I don't care how big you are -- deal with whoever has the ball and let life take care of itself."

As John Mellenkamp once wrote: Crash! Boom! Bam!

Flickering star

The Lions this week cut quarterback Drew Henson, the one-time Michigan star who was supposed to be the next third baseman for the New York Yankees and then the next quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Now, he's next in line for the question: Whatever happened to ...? Henson's bottom line for all the media coverage he received over the past decade: One hit in eight games with the Yankees; one touchdown pass in seven NFL games.

Quick snaps

Interim Raiders coach Tom Cable will replace offensive coordinator Greg Knapp as the play-caller when Oakland faces Miami. ... Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is 14-11. That's the best 25-game start by a Cardinals coach since Norm Barry directed the Chicago Cardinals to a 16-7-2 record in his first 25 in the mid-1920s.
