Web site invites donations of toys, food, clothing
Saturday, November 15, 2008

Pittsburgh Cares, a 16-year-old nonprofit organization, launched a new page on its Web site this week that connects people who want to make in-kind contributions like food, clothing, toys, office supplies and holiday items.

The Web site page is www.pittsburghcares.org/donationcenter. Those with particular items to donate, like toys, can enter that word into a search box and get a list of agencies that need toys.

Kristin Brown, development and communications director for Pittsburgh Cares, said the page features a searchable list of nonprofit agencies' wishes.

"The response has been positive so far. We only chose 20 organizations that we work with closely to be our pilot agencies on the donation center. But we are inviting more agencies to post their wish lists. We're hoping to grow the donation center," Ms. Brown said.

To find a specific agency's needs, click on the name of the agency and a wish list will appear.
