When the Gibson custom shop in Nashville needed to re-create a circa 1954 Les Paul guitar, it didn't skimp on the details.
Jeweler and engraver Michael Cirelli, of Cirelli's Fine Jewelry in Beaver, was commissioned to create the metal hardware, including this intricate pick guard, as part of the 13th annual American Music Masters Series for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honoring the founding father of the electric guitar, Les Paul.
The series celebrates music pioneers with exhibits, lectures and films benefiting the Hall's Education Department. "The Life and Legacy of Les Paul" includes a tribute concert at 8 tonight at PlayhouseSquare's State Theater, 1519 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.
The series features Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, including Richie Sambora and Slash. More information: playhousesquare.org or 1-216-241-6000.
