Lyle Marsh

Bethel Park

The past week: A 6-foot-1, 210-pound running back/strong safety, Marsh rushed for 221 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-21 victory in the WPIAL Class AAAA quarterfinals against North Allegheny.

Check this out: Heading into tomorrow's semifinal against McKeesport, Marsh has 951 yards rushing on 139 carries. He is receiving interest from Ivy and Patriot League schools.

As a running back, would you rather run through or around someone? I'd rather run through them. It hurts them more that way.

Why can Bethel Park win a WPIAL title this year? We just have very good team camaraderie with this team and coaching staff is very good.

Finish this sentence. The McKeesport football team is ... Really good. They are fast, strong and well-coached.

One thing about your coach, Jeff Metheny, that you are going to tell me and he's going to be embarrassed about? He uses sunscreen in the winter. He comes out and has it all over him. I am completely serious.

Who is the best football player you have ever played against and why? [Gateway linebacker] Dorian Bell. He is tough, fast and hits really hard.

You are hungry, it is midnight, you go down into the refrigerator and eat ... A steak. I'll make it on the George Foreman grill.

Your favorite teacher? Mrs. Pfeuffer, she teaches calculus. She is very intelligent and is such a good teacher. She is the best teacher I've had.

You find an unmarked envelope with $5,000 in it. What do you do? I definitely keep it. No question.

Shelli Spamer

Peters Township

The past week: Spamer scored two goals for the Peters Township soccer team in a 3-0 victory against Hampton Tuesday in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals.

Check this out: Spamer, a sophomore midfielder who also was a starter as a freshman, has scored 19 goals this season and is one of the team's top playmakers.

I understand you excel at throw-ins. How does one get to be good at that? I guess I always have just been good at it. My sister [Nici] played soccer and was good at it, too. So I guess it just runs in our family.

Your team lost in the WPIAL final a few weeks ago. Is winning the PIAA bigger than the WPIAL? I think winning the WPIAL is hard. We lost, so we had to shoot for something bigger. I don't think we're going to stop until we win.

Are you a bigger part of the team this year than your freshman year? I think I'm still the same, but we lost a lot of players from last year and I think everyone just needed to step up more this year.

Why the 'I' at the end of your first name and not 'Y'? I'm not sure. I've asked my mom that and she never said. But my brother, Bryan, spells his name with a 'Y,' and my sister, Nici, has a weird spelling, too. So our names are all spelled weird.

Soccer parents are ... Crazy. Even sitting in the stands for a game, I can't stand hearing what parents have to say. You just would never guess some of the things they say.

People might be surprised to know that you ... I love to dress up and be a girl. I love shopping. I have two completely [different] sides to me. I love playing soccer, but I can also go home, get dressed up and go out.
