Q: Not to take anything away from Iowa, but Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark looked out of rhythm the whole game. Is it possible that the coaches put him back on the field too soon after his concussion? I'm having a tough time understanding why Pat Devlin didn't get some playing time. I'm not chanting for the backup QB, I just want Daryll healthy.

Chris Fisher, Braselton, Ga.

MUSSELMAN: Chris, in my opinion, Clark has played poorly the past two games. Ohio State and Iowa have both been in his face constantly. Devlin did rally the team in the fourth quarter against the Buckeyes after Clark suffered his concussion. Against Iowa, Clark played by far the worst game of his career, throwing for just 86 yards and the critical interception that set up the Hawkeyes' winning field goal. Coach Joe Paterno said after the game that Clark rushed his passes after getting knocked to the ground several times in the opening half. Perhaps the coaching staff was trying to protect Clark and that is why they put wide receiver Derrick Williams in the shotgun formation so many times to take the direct snap, with Clark flanked out wide.
