Ryan McKenzie | Mars

The past week: Mars won the WPIAL Class AA championship and McKenzie played a big role. He scored all three goals in a 3-2 semifinal victory against South Park. Mars beat Thomas Jefferson, 3-2, in the championship to give the Planets their first soccer title.

Check this out: McKenzie, a 5-foot-11, 155-pound junior, leads Mars in scoring with 19 goals. He has been a starter since his freshman year and has 42 career goals. His sister, Kristen, was the leading scorer on the Mars girls' team this season.

Mars was in a state championship game last year. Why is Mars suddenly good in boys' soccer? We've had some good coaches. Chris Knauss is a good [head] coach. Plus, we've had two talented classes come through. The [senior] class above me and the juniors are pretty good.

Did you do anything to celebrate after winning the championship? We went out to eat at Quaker Steak & Lube, but we had to get focused again on Monday.

Who is better on their own respective level -- you or your sister? Right now maybe me. But she missed almost two seasons with a broken leg. I would've said her before that.

Did you go out on Halloween? Yes, but I went with my 9-year-old sister. I was Superman. She was a hippie.

You wish high school girls would ... Eat more.

Someone you'd pay to see in concert? AC/DC

People might be surprised to know that ... I like to read.

Gillian Kacsuta | Schenley

The past week: A soccer goalie who led the Spartans to the City League title with a shutout victory against Allderdice. The shutout was her 13th this season and school record 29th for her career.

Check this out: A 5-foot-4 senior who lives in Carrick, Kacsuta is a former competitive gymnast who gave up the sport at 15 to concentrate on soccer. She is looking to play college soccer and has received interest from Youngstown State, Manhattan and Temple and carries a 3.5 grade point average.

Being only 5-4, is that a big disadvantage? In some ways, yes. But I can compensate for it by being fast and being in position all the time.

How many people attend Schenley girls' soccer games? Not that many. Mainly just the parents.

You gave up gymnastics to compete in soccer. Any regrets? I do have some, because gymnastics helped me stay in the best shape possible. My upper body shape was great and so was my endurance. It is still good, but with gymnastics it was even better.

Do you think the City League teams sometimes get overlooked by WPIAL teams? Oh yes, for sure. We walk into games and they think, 'Oh, that's just a City League team, we're just going to walk all over them.' I think, this year, we were able to prove some people wrong because of how well we played.

You can have one quick meal after practice on the way home. You eat? I'd stop at Subway.

The amount of hours per week you spend on homework is ... It depends. At least 10.

One thing that is always in your backpack? A Soccer magazine, usually Eurosport.

Three Web sites you regularly visit? The Youngstown State soccer page, Facebook and my Email.
