Dividends

WVS Financial Corp. declared a 16-cent cash dividend on its common stock, payable Nov. 20 to stockholders of record Nov. 10.

Contracts

Desmone & Associates completed construction of the expansion/renovation of a commercial office building on Jamison Lane, Monroeville. The project includes renovation and tenant improvements to the existing 129,000-square-foot, four-story building and the construction of a 50,000-square-foot, four-story addition for Bechtel Plant Machinery.

Business Notes

ClearCount Medical Solutions, which offers patient safety solutions for the operating room, closed its $4.1 million Series A financing round, and will use the funds to accelerate sales efforts of its RFID technology for the prevention of retained surgical sponges. ClearCount has an FDA-cleared sponge counting and detection solution.

Attorney Arnold Y. Steinberg, of Pittsburgh, has formed "Mediation, Inc.," which will serve attorneys and private parties in mediating various disputes. Call 412-434-1190.

SAWA Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar signed a long-term lease for a 6,450-square-foot, build-to-suit restaurant in Cranberry. The second location for the company in the Pittsburgh region, SAWA Cranberry will be built at Oak Tree Place, a Walnut Capital development.

Grants/loans

The Highmark Foundation awarded $322,700 to two nonprofit organizations in Allegheny County to support the expansion of programs that provide access to health and wellness facilities and education for families. The grants will benefit a wellness education initiative for underserved children and adults and a prenatal and early childhood training program for expectant mothers. The following grants were awarded under the Highmark Foundation's general health funding category:

• The Centers for Healthy Hearts and Souls was awarded $246,000 over three years to support the expansion of the "Healthy Individual, Family and Community" wellness initiative to provide opportunities to participate in organized wellness activities to improve health habits. The program is an 18-week health promotion, disease prevention and spiritual-based initiative consisting of three curriculums: fitness and nutrition, diabetes management and youth corps.

• The Ohio Valley General Hospital Foundation was awarded $76,700 over three years to establish the "Growing Strong Healthy Families: Best Beginnings" program for low-income, uninsured, underinsured and underserved expectant mothers. The prenatal and early childhood program aims to improve the quality of life for uninsured teens, low-income women and their children in the Ohio Valley. The 24-session program includes one-on-one interactions with a physician, obstetrical nurse or educator and a dietitian, and interactive group sessions.

New Business/New Offices

The Law Offices of Peter H. Kurzweg opened at 1119 Penn Ave., Downtown, providing general legal counsel in areas such as wills and estates, contracts, personal injury, workers' compensation and real estate transactions.
