Seth Rorabaugh's Penguins chat transcript

beerman0303: I love the way the Goligoski and Malkin work the point together on the power play. Will Whitney automatically take over for Goligoski at the point even if the power play is converting at that time?

Seth Rorabaugh: I have to imagine Whitney will get first crack at the unit once he's healthy and up to full speed. Goligoski is playing well on that unit, but dont forget, he's only in there because of injuries to Gonchar and Whitney.

MAdesso: Hello Seth, so any chance the Pens are looking into signing Mats Sundin?

Seth Rorabaugh: There about as good as the Penguins bringing back Jaromir Jagr. Sundin's a center and that's the last position they need more depth at.

MAdesso: Hey Seth, How would you rate Goligoski's performance so far this season? Letang's?

Seth Rorabaugh: I would rate Goligoski as being a little inconsistent, but considering this is his first crack at an NHL lineup, it's understandable. I thought Letang started out slowly but has rounded out. I thought he played marvelous in Phoenix defensively. He helped break up a few odd man rushes.

beerman0303: Who do think think our top two lines should be comprised of right now?

Seth Rorabaugh: If you discount injuries and Michel Therrien's bingo machine approach to line combinations, I would keep Talbot, Crosby and Satan together. And I would like to see Fedotenko put on a line with Malkin and Sykora.

Lchip7: Hi Seth, Any word on how Mark Eaton took being a healthy scratch in St. Louis? And more specifically, why he was scratched?

Seth Rorabaugh: Since I don't cover the team on a daily basis like Dave or Shelly, I can't answer how he took the news, but I can't imagine he was thrilled about it (no duh). The previous few games, Eaton had been on the ice for a few key goals. He allowed Markus Naslund to score a key goal in New York and I want to say he allowed Olli Jokinen to get one in Phoenix as well.

atkpitt12: Saturday marked the first time in a while that the team looked qualified to say that they had an offense. What do you think changed from the first 3 games of the road trip?

Seth Rorabaugh: For one, I think the opponent helped. The Blues aren't a very good team and Chris Mason isn't going to win a Vezina anytime soon. The previous three games they faced Henrik Lundqvist, Evgeni Nabokov (not that they challenged with a great deal of shots) and Ilya Bryzgalov. All three are all-star caliber goaltenders. Chris Mason must've looked like a shooter tutor by comparison. The new line combinations also helped. For whatever reason, Satan and Crosby seemed to connect.

beerman0303: Besides Goligoski, do you see any rookies contributing for the Pens this year? How does our overall talent in minor leagues look?

Seth Rorabaugh: its going to be tough for another rookie to crack the lineup and offer anything notable in terms of offense. And the only reason Goligoski is here is the injuries to Gonchar and Whitney. Bissonnette will fill in his occasional role as a goon but he'll be luck to dress have the games. Janne Pesonen is probably their most notable player with any hopes to contributing to the NHL club immediately on offense, but they thought so much of his talent the sent back to the AHL after one game. They seem to have a quite a few viable third or fourth line types at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but no one out side of Pesonen I would plug into the top two lines in the NHL.

beerman0303: Where would you rate Fleury among the best goalies in the NHL?

Seth Rorabaugh: Based on his play this season, I would put him in the top five with the likes of Lundqvist, Nabokov, etc. He's probably the biggest reason the Penguins have a winning record this season. But before I start considering him in an overall class with the likes of Brodeur and Luongo, I'd like to see him preform at a high level over the course of an entire season and into the playoffs. He has yet to do that in his career.

Seth Rorabaugh: Alright folks. Hope to do this another time soon. Take care!
