Wednesday, October 29, 2008

The Allegheny County Jail has earned accreditation from the American Correctional Association, the first jail in the state to do so.

The County Bureau of Corrections received a score of 100 percent on mandatory standards, the county announced Tuesday, including security, safety, administration and management. The nationwide standards were developed by several groups in law, corrections, health care and other fields.

Allegheny County is one of more than 1,500 correctional organizations throughout the country to go through the 15-month process. The accreditation award is good for three years.
