The Fumbler feels like he needs a TripTik from AAA, the bald radials on his 1987 Merkur are pleading for mercy, and he will spend about $160 in gas in 72 hours -- but, other than that, his life is splendid. Get this: The Fumbler will see four games in three days. Last night, he took in the Gateway-McKeesport blockbuster, and tonight he is headed to the West Middlesex at Mercer game because his cousin's daughter is in the silk line at Mercer.
Tomorrow, The Fumbler will see two games. He'll keenly watch the Lakeview at Kennedy Catholic game at noon (he's doing some scouting for a friend), then stop at Brown's Country Kitchen in Portersville for a pork chop before the Knoch-Mars matchup.
While The Fumbler is a Travelin' Man -- just like Ricky Nelson -- driving all those miles this week will give him time to ponder just how great of a prognosticator he truly is. Last week, he went 56-9 (.861 percentage) which makes him 402-92 (.807 pct.) for the season.
Here is a look at some of this weekend's top games:
North Allegheny (5-3, 3-1) at North Hills (7-1, 4-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- This is one of the biggest games in the past 10 years in this heated rivalry. The winner finishes first in the Northern Six Conference. The keys to the game are how both quarterbacks play -- North Hills' Justin Heinauer and North Allegheny's Mike Locke. Winner: North Allegheny.
West Allegheny (6-2, 3-2) at Montour (4-4, 2-3), 7:30 p.m. today -- The winner clinches a playoff spot, and the loser misses out on the postseason. Montour is on a three-game losing skid. West Allegheny has lost two of its past four games. The Fumbler thinks West Allegheny might find some holes in Montour's defense, which gave up 106 points in the past three games. Winner: West Allegheny.
Jeannette (8-0, 8-0) vs. Greensburg Central Catholic (8-0, 8-0) at Hempfield, 6 p.m. tomorrow -- Jeannette is trying to stretch its state-long winning streak to 25 games. Greensburg Central is averaging 47.9 points and Jeannette 43.5. This one won't be as high scoring. Winner: Jeannette.
North Catholic (7-1, 5-1) at Avonworth (8-0, 6-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- These two schools have met in some big games in girls' basketball recently. But football? People used to call them "Avonworth-less." After this game, they'll call the Antelopes "conference champs." Winner: Avonworth.
Rochester (8-0, 6-0) at Monaca (7-1, 5-1), 7:30 p.m. today -- No team has scored more than seven points on Rochester. The Fumbler believes Monaca will need 21 to beat Rochester. It won't happen. Winner: Rochester.
