Former news anchor Cannon pleads guilty to DUI
Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Former WTAE and KDKA-TV news anchor Don Cannon pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 93 days of house arrest.

Mr. Cannon, 68, whose real name is Donald J. Clark, was arrested twice for DUI last year -- on Nov. 19 and again Nov. 30. In both cases, according to court records, his blood alcohol level was above 0.16, double the legal limit for driving.

Mr. Cannon worked for WTAE from 1969 to 1995, when he departed after battling alcoholism and depression. He was arrested in 1993 for drunken driving when he refused a breathalyzer test.

He returned to work for KDKA in 1999 but has been off the air since late last year. He told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in May that more medical problems arose around the time he went off the air, and that he was going to spend most of his time in California working part time.
