Ebony, Steelers take to the runways
Monday, October 20, 2008

Two of Pittsburgh's biggest annual fashion events are this week.

The Ebony Fashion Fair rolls into town tomorrow. In its 51st year, the traveling stage show's theme is "The Runway Report: What's Hip. What's Hot. What's Now!"

The show is at 7:30 p.m. at the Byham Theater, 101 Sixth St., Downtown.

As usual, many of the looks are couture and one-of-a-kind. They are bought from scores of designers from around the world, ranging from Anna Sui, Kevan Hall, Ralph Rucci and Missoni to Valentino, Vivienne Westwood, Arthur Mendonca and Issey Miyake.

The show here is presented each year by the Pittsburgh Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. The benefiting charity is Naomi's Place.

Tickets are $30 at 412-456-1350, 412-621-5505 or 412-361-3888 and include a one-year subscription to Ebony or a six-month subscription to Jet.

On Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their families will take to a runway at the Hilton, Downtown, to benefit the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute and the Cancer Caring Center. The theme of this year's Steelers Style fashion show and dinner is "Steelers Pride Worldwide."

Honorary co-captains are James Farrior and Jeff Reed. Chairing the event are Steelers chairman Art Rooney II and his wife, Greta, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and his wife, Kiya.

A Steelers-inspired gown designed and worn by Mrs. Tomlin at last year's show will be auctioned. Shea Mullen of Give and Take will unveil T-shirts she designed to celebrate both charities, and fashions in the show will be from Nordstrom, hiptique, Reebok and Tuxedo Junction.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner at 7, and the show starts at 8. Attire is cocktail or business. Tickets are $225. For tickets and information, contact haimee@pmhsf.org or call 412-802-8256.
