District Roundup: Charleston hands Seton Hill its first loss

Nationally-ranked Seton Hill suffered its first loss as DaRante Hunter led host Charleston (W.Va) to a 44-21 rout of the 18th-ranked Griffins (7-1, 4-1) yesterday in a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

Hunter completed 8 of 11 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns while adding three rushing scores.

Charleston (6-2, 5-1) led, 27-14, at halftime. Seton Hill was led by Antwarn Jones' 114 yards rushing on 18 carries. The Griffins' David Wess threw a touchdown pass and rushed for a touchdown. Sammy Tranks returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown in a losing effort.

Other games

Central Connecticut 35, Duquesne 23: The Dukes (2-4, 1-3) were beaten in New Britain, Conn., despite 198 yards passing and three touchdowns by Connor Dixon. Duquesne trailed, 21-10, at halftime in a Northeast Conference contest.

Bryant 20, Robert Morris 7: The Colonials (2-5) lost a non-conference game in Smithfield, R.I., as Bryant (4-3) outgained Robert Morris, 365-141, in total offense.

IUP 41, Mercyhurst 10: The Crimson Hawks (5-2, 3-2) routed visiting Mercyhurst (5-3, 4-1) in a PSAC-West contest. IUP's Andrew Krewatch tied a career-high with four touchdown passes. It is the first football meeting between the schools.

Edinboro 35, Slippery Rock 14: Trevor Harris passed for 378 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns for the Fighting Scots (7-1, 4-1) in a PSAC-West victory at Slippery Rock (4-4, 2-3).

West Virginia State 34, West Liberty 24: The host Yellow Jackets (6-1, 4-1) rebounded from a loss at Seton Hill last week, downing West Liberty (4-4, 3-2) in the WVIAC.

Thomas More 35, Grove City 14: The host Wolverines (4-3, 1-2) dropped a Presidents' Athletic Association contest to Thomas More (5-1, 4-0) which remained unbeaten in conference play. Grove City lost despite Andrew DiDonato completing 28 of 39 attempts for 174 passing yards and a touchdown.

Westminster 46, Bethany 43: The Titans (4-3, 2-2) came back from a 28-0 deficit after the first quarter to win at home against Bethany (1-5, 0-4) in a PAC contest. Westminster amassed 33 first downs and 507 yards offense. Nick McKolosky rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns for Westminster. Teammate Kevin Franz completed 31 of 50 pass attempts for 306 yards and three touchdowns.
