UPMC integrating burn, trauma services
UPMC said yesterday that it was integrating the burn and trauma services of UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Mercy, and that trauma and burn surgeon Dr. Alain Corcos had been promoted to trauma director for UPMC Mercy. Dr. Andrew Peitzman, who has led the trauma center at UPMC Presbyterian for more than two decades, will head the integrated program. UPMC said the reorganization is a part of the hospital system's plan to expand UPMC Mercy's "subspecialty service capabilities."
SCIOinspire expects to create 75 jobs
SCIOinspire, a provider of cost management services for the health-care and payer communities, will mark the opening of its new U.S. call center and service delivery hub in Robinson on Thursday. The company expects the operation to create 75 jobs.
Canadians set to control Boscov's store locations
A Canadian real estate investment trust should soon have control of the Boscov's department store locations at Monroeville Mall and South Hills Village. H&R Reit had acquired the sites after the Reading department store chain moved in a few years ago following the merger of the parent companies of Macy's and Kaufmann's. The Toronto company owns seven Boscov's stores being closed as part of that retailer's bankruptcy reorganization. An H&R spokesman said an effort would be made to find new tenants, but that if none are found soon the properties could go to lender Bank of America.
Hyundai recalling 2001, 2002 Elantras
Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling about 150,000 Hyundai Elantra sedans because of potential electrical problems that could prevent air bags from deploying. Hyundai said the recall involved Elantras from the 2001 model year. The Korean automaker also is recalling about 75,000 Elantras from the 2001 and 2002 model years because of issues with an air bag wiring harness that could prevent the side air bags from deploying.
Alcoa assets await transfer from Lehman
Alcoa said it expected the transfer of its joint Rio Tinto stake with Aluminum Corp. of China to go "smoothly" after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holding Corp. Alcoa said it was working "closely" with administrators of Lehman Brothers to achieve the transfer of the shares from a custodial Lehman account. The joint company, known as Chinalco, said the stake in mining giant Rio Tinto was safe even though it is held by a unit of defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers.
