On the Radar: Things to watch and people to look for in district high school sports
Friday, October 17, 2008
Andrew Lucarini, Fort Cherry

This kid has a run on records. A senior on the Rangers' cross country team, Lucarini recently set course records in four consecutive meets at South Side Beaver, McGuffey, Fort Cherry and Geibel. He also is a standout wrestler.

Dom Timbers, Woodland Hills

It has been the Dom-ino effect at Woodland Hills lately. A transfer from Central Catholic, Timbers became eligible in the fifth week and has 355 yards rushing in three games. Next is Plum tonight.

Kate Begor, Mt. Lebanon

She apparently has learned a thing or two from mom. Begor's mother, Dawn, is Mt. Lebanon's girls' volleyball coach and Kate has developed into one of the best setters in the WPIAL. A junior, Kate helped Mt. Lebanon tie for a section title this season.

North Allegheny, girls' doubles tennis team

The team of sophomore Kelly Whelan and senior Jen Larimore has a double-take on WPIAL titles. They won their second consecutive WPIAL championship last week. It was Larimore's third overall.

David Miller, Greensburg Central Catholic

This running back always seems to have reservations for six. He leads the WPIAL in touchdowns with 27. No other player has more than 19. Miller also has rushed for 731 yards on 96 carries. He'll try to find his way into the end zone tonight against South Allegheny.
