The past week: Lapkowicz, a senior quarterback, completed 13 of 20 passes for 211 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 101 yards and a score, in a 47-27 victory against Geibel.
Check this out: Lapkowicz (5 feet 11, 180 pounds) missed the first four games of this season while recovering from a broken ankle sustained in the semifinals of the PIAA baseball playoffs in June. He had surgery on the ankle and a plate and screws were inserted. In three football games, he has completed 39 of 53 (74 percent) for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 175 yards on 34 attempts. In baseball last season, Lapkowicz was 8-0 as a pitcher. He also plays basketball but will play either football or baseball in college.
Did you think you might not play football this year? I thought that way in the summer. I wasn't supposed to come back until November.
With a plate and screws, do you ever have trouble at a metal detector? They're stainless steel (laughs), so I think I'd be OK.
What do kids in Carmichaels do for fun on a Saturday night? Go to the movies in Morgantown [W.Va.] or hang out and watch college football.
You also had two brothers, Jared and Jeff, who were three-sport athletes at Carmichaels. Who is the best athlete of you three? That's putting a lot of pressure on me. I'd say Jeff because he was the best in basketball and that's the most athletic sport there is.
People might be surprised to know that you ... I have a chance to be our valedictorian.

The past week: Munoz, a senior 6-foot outside hitter for the defending WPIAL champion Hopewell volleyball team, helped the Vikings to wins against Ellwood City, Beaver Falls and Beaver -- all by a 3-0 score.
Check this out: Still undecided, Munoz hopes to play volleyball in college. Her play has pushed the Vikings to a 12-2 record as the playoffs start next week. Hopewell, a Class AA school, has lost this year only to Seneca Valley and Moon, Class AAA schools.
Why can Hopewell win a WPIAL title this year? Because we have been there before. We have six seniors and have experienced these feelings of what we need to do in big games at the end of the year.
Ever take one in the face? Yeah, plenty of times. And it doesn't feel that great. I played varsity as a freshman and I was known for getting hit in the face in practice and warm-ups.
Do you prefer sand or indoor volleyball? I actually prefer indoor. Playing outdoors is fun, but it is so much more limited.
The most running you've ever done in one day of volleyball practice? It was my [Junior Olympic] practice, with Kris Rupert as my coach. We didn't do so well at a tournament and we were practicing in Greentree [at the SportsPlex]. There were three volleyball courts next to each other and we had to run 10 suicides and touch every single line on all three courts.
You go get some quick food. You order ... I go to Subway and get a regular turkey sandwich.
What are you looking for in a college? An amazing coach who has a great program with players that I would fit in well with.
