Crews have closed the Shippingport Bridge, which carries Route 168 in Beaver County, after a routine bridge inspection revealed a single deteriorated floor beam, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

The bridge was shut down about 7 p.m. yesterday and is expected to be closed for less than a week while crews make repairs.

A detour has been posted from Route 68 to Route 60 to Route 18.

The bridge is slated to be completely replaced, he said, with construction starting in months ahead.
