Let's face it. There are some things you just can't buy, at least in Pittsburgh -- an Hermes handbag, chocolate sailboats, hand-painted floor cloths and a seven-layer caramel cake. For 13 years the Garden Club of Allegheny County has been bringing an assortment of distinctive boutiques to the city for a two-day shopping extravaganza that benefits the work GCAC does throughout the community. From sponsoring Botany in Action to this year's project, helping the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to fund a landscape design for the Frick Park Environmental Center, Pizzazz offers guilt-free shopping perfect for beating the holiday rush.

Pizzazz opens with a preview party from 5 to 9 on Oct. 15 at the Fox Chapel Golf Club. Drinks, hors d'oeuvres, socializing and a first crack at shopping make this one of fall's most popular events. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 (until 7 p.m.) and on Oct. 17 (until 4 p.m.) for the public to peruse the 30 designer boutiques selected on the basis of quality, originality and exclusivity. Wares range from clothing and accessories to jewelry, gifts, home and children's items and gourmet treats. Admission is $5, and a buffet lunch is offered for $25.

Call 412-741-1542 for preview party or lunch reservations. See more at www.pizzazzpgh.org or call 412-726-7114.
