It's not cricket: Scantily clad women are not an integral part of sports in Sri Lanka. So, when The Los Angeles Times reported that locals protested the addition of skimpy-outfitted cheerleaders to a Sri Lanka-India cricket series, we were not shocked. "It's not in keeping with our tradition," said Cultural Minister Yapa Abeywardena. Wait a minute, snaps the New Zealand Herald: "Clearly, that tradition has nothing to do with the fifth-century Sigirya rock fortress, a World Heritage site near the [cricket] ground known for its frescoes of bare-chested women." Ah, nothing like a little Sri Lankan history lesson to start the day.
