Officials are calling for residents to keep an eye out for any activity near Dumpsters following a recent fire occurring in the Holly Hill section.
During the past year, there have been seven or eight mysterious fires, and while no serious property damage has resulted, an incident earlier in September concerned Camarta Drive resident Bob Logue.
"There was a loud explosion and I thought something hit our house," Mr. Logue said at a council meeting last month.
Councilman Mike Stelmasczy suggested that residents start neighborhood crime watches.
Interim police Chief Larry Heidenreich said the fires are under investigation.
Jefferson Regional Medical Center President and CEO Thomas P. Timcho said in a release Tuesday that the South Hills health care provider has purchased the former Mercy-HealthTrax Building at 1000 Higbee Road in Bethel Park.
The facility will become known as the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Health Pavilion. The 60,000-square-foot facility was built in 2003 and was previously owned by Mercy Life Care Corp.
Vice President Albert J. Ragan says the Medical Center intends to maintain the current relationships with physicians, tenants and health care providers as established by the previous owner.
"We recognize that the people who live in the area have relationships with the physicians and health care providers in the building. We hope to work with the current tenants to build relationships and partner with them to deliver quality health care options to the community."
Current tenants include: Jefferson Regional Medical Center (physical therapy), JRMC Diagnostic Services (blood draw), Health Trax, South Hills Family Medicine, Greater Pittsburgh OB/GYN, Preferred Primary Care Physicians, Steel Valley Orthopedic Associates and Medical Rehabilitation.
Jefferson Regional will consider what services to add to the pavilion based on the needs of the community. As part of its community outreach initiative, the Medical Center will begin offering free blood pressure monitoring and medication checks at the site on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, starting Oct. 14. No registration is required.
