PNC Legacy Trail Ride: Oct. 4
Exactly 250 years ago, George Washington pedaled his Schwinn to the South Side.
OK, that's a lie. But we're betting that if Washington had access to a good mountain bike, and if the PTAG folks were around to clear the trail, the future Father of Our Country would have ridden a bike from Virginia instead of a horse.
The PNC Legacy Trail Ride pays greater attention to historical detail, celebrating the city's 250th anniversary, completion of the Great Allegheny Passage trail and grand re-opening of Point State Park. Thousands are expected for the ride from the Hot Metal Bridge to Downtown. Register at www.bike250.org and get a commemorative button and blinky light, which is more than Washington ever got when he visited.
