The Parkway East will be restricted to a single lane in the outbound direction -- and several ramps will be closed -- between the Edgewood-Swissvale and Monroeville interchanges starting 9 p.m. Friday.
However, the mainline and ramp restrictions are to be lifted by 5 a.m. Sunday because of the 31st annual Richard S. Caliguiri/City of Pittsburgh Great Race, which starts 9:30 a.m.
As usual, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has advised motorists to plan travel accordingly. Drivers have often experienced significant delays on Saturday even with one lane open through the three-mile work zone.
While all mainline paving has been finished on the $22.8 million project, the contractor is still engaged in shoulder, guiderail and related activities on the mainline and in overpass rehabilitiation and ramp repairs.
Ramps to be impacted by this weekend's schedule include the outbound off-ramp and on-ramp at Churchill Road, the outbound on-ramp from William Penn Highway, the Business Route 22 ramp to McCrady Road, and the Wilkinsburg outbound on-ramps.
No inbound traffic restrictions have been announced for this round of work.
