Beer: The Big Pour pours on
Thursday, September 25, 2008

If you didn't make it to last weekend's Steel City Big Pour at Construction Junction in Point Breeze, you still can get a taste of the beer festival fund-raiser:

The "Big Pour Brew," an unusual cherry dubbel brewed specially for the fest by East End Brewing Co., still is available not only at that Homewood brewery during its growler hours, but also at the Harris Grill in Shadyside and Fat Heads on the South Side.

East End's Scott Smith describes the brew as a 7.2-percent-alcohol Belgian-style dubbel fermented with Michigan sour cherries. It'll go fast.

The second Big Pour grossed $92,537 for the nonprofit building materials recycler, says Construction Junction executive director Mike Gable.

The first Great Dormont Beer Tasting -- a benefit for the Dormont Public Library -- runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4 at Jamie's Restaurant, West Liberty Avenue. Great Lakes Brewing will provide brews to pair with each of the six courses of the gourmet dinner and a speaker to explain them. Cost is $45 per person or $80 per couple and partially tax deductible (412-561-0450).
