Planning commission OKs several requests
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

The city planning commission yesterday approved rezoning a 10-acre parcel in Ridgemont to allow SouthStar Development Partners to build a 418-unit condominium and townhouse community. City Vista at Parkway would straddle the Pittsburgh and Green Tree line on an unused driving range behind Parkway Center Mall.

The commission also granted a restaurateur conditional use of a liquor license on East Carson Street in the South Side. An ordinance passed last year defined one license per 50,000 square feet as saturation; East Carson is the only district so saturated, but the commission said the plans submitted by Baba D's meet the requirements for a conditional use.

Dourid Aboud said his family will run a Middle Eastern restaurant, not a bar, at 2126 E. Carson St.

The commission approved the Carnegie Science Center's 10-year master plan, which calls for an addition to the original building by 2018. Next year, the center plans to have a new SportsWorks building; the current one on Allegheny Avenue is being razed to make space for the North Shore light-rail station.
