Westmoreland County Community College said yesterday it has secured the largest grant in its history, a $2 million federal award to improve retention and graduation rates of at-risk students.
The five-year U.S. Department of Education grant is an outgrowth of the school's work to develop learning intervention strategies through a national student success initiative, "Achieving the Dream."
College President Steven C. Ender is expected to outline plans for the award today at a meeting of school trustees.
The college said four out of five students enrolled there test into at least one developmental class in reading, English or math.
