Comedian/actress Caroline Rhea has a deal for two original Web series for online comedy channel Atomic Wedgie.
The first -- "Pedestrian Red Carpet" -- is already on online. Rhea is producer, writer and host of the series, in which typical red-carpet celeb questions are posed to ordinary people on the streets of New York and Los Angeles. A sample question: "Any big projects coming up?" Answer: "Not really."
A second series with Greg Hah, a hidden-camera show filmed in different work environments, will launch later.
Atomic Wedgie can be viewed through several online portals: Metacafe.com, YouTube.com, Blinkx.com and MySpaceTV.com.
MTV has launched Backchannel, an online game/chat that will be synched to some MTV series, starting with "The Hills."
Viewers can play the game through their computers by going to chat rooms on the MTV Web site. A handful of players are chosen to be "taggers" who type in tags or phrases in response to what's happening on the show. The rest of the players are "clickers," who respond to what the taggers are saying.
The MTV audience is often online, watching TV and sending text messages to friends at the same time, so Backchannel was conceived as a logical extension of that kind of viewing experience.
