Shortstop Jack Wilson singled in what might have been his final at-bat in Pittsburgh, but the Pirates lost their home finale to the Houston Astros, 6-2, this afternoon at PNC Park.
Roy Oswalt allowed one run on seven hits over six innings.
As Wilson strode to the batter's box for a pinch-hit appearance in the fifth inning, the 20,311 on hand rose in unison and roared in recognition of what might be his final at-bat in Pittsburgh.
With the crowd still on its feet and growing louder, Wilson, on his second at-bat since that index finger was fractured Aug. 31, took two balls, then lashed a single into left that advanced Luis Cruz.
Wilson is likely to be traded this offseason.
