Almost a week after hurricane-force winds struck the region, more than 1,800 Western Pennsylvania customers remained without power today.
About 600 Duquesne Light customers remained without power, most of them in Moon, Sewickley and Beaver County, according to spokesman Joseph Vallarian.
Mr. Vallarian said over the past week, Duquesne Light crews have dealt with 1,400 cases of downed wires; approximately 1,000 incidents of damaged or downed trees; 95 broken poles; 76 damaged transformers and 59 cases of other damaged equipment. There were 1,217 Penn Power customers without power as of last night, including 554 in the Cranberry area, 473 in Lawrence County, and 190 in Mercer County, said spokesman Bart Spagnola.
And Allegheny Power still had 14 customers without power in Butler and Armstrong counties.
All customers are expected to have power restored by tonight.
Last Sunday night's high winds -- the remnants of Hurricane Ike -- felled trees and utility poles across the area, cutting power to thousands of homes and businesses. Restoration has been slow going because the damage was so widespread, utility companies said.
